Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 Workshop for PhD-students and other researchers

The Erasmus Postgraduate School Molecular Medicine (MolMed) has two main activities:
(1) the organization of education for PhD students; and (2) the stimulation of cooperation between several departments with regards to translational research.

On Tuesday afternoon with the second part on Wednesday morning, the school organizes this two half-day hands-on Workshop on the use of Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 to edit and refine images for medical publications and to make and adapt figures, graphs and tables. It is especially meant for medical PhD-students, Agiko’s and others who wants to know more about making figures for publications in scientific journals, such as Nature, Science and others. Both programs, Photoshop and Illustrator, will be dealt with evenly.
This workshop uses the Adobe program Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator CS4 which can be bought at a heavily reduced price for all Erasmus MC employees via Surfspot.nl (as part of the Creative Suite CS4). All Erasmus MC employees who have a SOM-pc will have access to Photoshop CS3.

Contents
In this workshop you will learn to create a figure with imaginary data from different file-types, such as: ppt, pdf, psd, tiff, and jpg. We will be adding pictures and tables into one figure meant for publication. We will be correcting pictures and images for colour and learn about the difference between CMYK and RGB. And we will be importing and exporting data, such as images and figures, to and from Photoshop and Illustrator. The Nature-guidelines will be used as guidelines for designing the images.
It is possible to bring your own images as well. The second day will be partly about modifying your own images.

Audience
This Workshop is meant for PhD-students and other researchers who want to learn how to adapt their own images, in order to include them in scientific publications.
Basic knowledge of Photoshop and/or Illustrator is useful, but not necessary.
