The postgraduate school Molecular Medicine (MolMed) has been organizing the Basic and Translational Oncology course for many years now – in cooperation with the school Medical Genetic Center (MGC) and with contributions from many moderators and speakers from the LUMC.

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of translational cancer research.

Audience
The course is directed primarily at PhD students and postdocs in MolMed and MGC, but others (e.g., students and technicians of LUMC and Erasmus MC) are welcome too.
The maximum number of participants is 40. The course fee is €750. However, some participants are entitled to a discount; see below for all information.

Program
The program is set up logically in 5 steps, one step a day:

• Pathology, diagnostics & pathways in cancer
• Biology of the cancer cell: Genetics & Epigenetics
• Genetic susceptibility, invasion & metastasis
• Clinical practice: diagnostics & targeted therapies
• Translational research, epidemiology of cancer, cancer data in research & end-of-life interventions

Keynote speakers
We are proud to announce again some famous keynote speakers. For the first time Doug Easton (University of Cambridge, Strangeways Research Lab); and again Piet Borst, Jos Jonkers and René Bernards (NCI). All their lectures will be announced more widely.

Journal clubs
Like last year, the program is enriched with journal clubs (JC’s) and lab sessions with course speakers. Publications to be discussed are announced one month in advance to all participants. We expect you to prepare these before the course starts. All participants are expected to give a short presentation during one of the the JC’s. These will be organised during the first 2 days of the course.

The amount of ECTS awarded for the entire course is 1,8.

At the start of the course, participants will receive a comprehensive reader consisting of recent papers relevant to the lectures.

Registration
Please register before May 1st! Give your preferred Journal Clubs in the free text field on the web form. We’ll send you the assignments & publications immediately after May 1st. Later registrations will get their assignment as well, but have less choice.
