Registration Deadline: 5 November 2013.
We have a minimum of 8 participants. When we don't have enough registrations on 5 November we'll cancel the course.

On Tuesday morning with the second part on Tuesday afternoon, the school organizes this two half day hands-on Workshop on the use of Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 to edit and refine images for medical publications and to make and adapt figures, graphs and tables. It is especially meant for medical PhD-students, Agiko’s and others who wants to know more about making figures for publications in scientific journals, such as Nature, Science and others. Both programs, Photoshop and Illustrator, will be dealt with evenly.

This workshop uses Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 which can be bought at a heavily reduced price for all Erasmus MC employees via (as part of the Creative Suite CS6). All Erasmus MC employees who have a SOM-pc will have access to Photoshop CS6 under Windows 7.

In this workshop you will learn to create a figure with imaginary data from different file-types, such as: ppt, pdf, psd, tiff, jpg and eps. We will be adding pictures and tables into one figure meant for publication. We will be correcting pictures and images for colour and learn about the difference between CMYK and RGB. And we will be importing and exporting data, such as images and figures, to and from Photoshop and Illustrator. It is possible to bring your own images as well. The second session will be partly about modifying your own images.

This workshop counts for 0,3 ECTS credit points, when fully present.

This Workshop is meant for PhD-students and other researchers who want to learn how to adapt their own images, in order to include them in scientific publications.
Basic knowledge of Photoshop and/or Illustrator is useful, but not necessary.

The Tuesday morning will start with lectures on Photoshop, explaining the different tools and letting you work with them on several prefabricated images. The Guidelines for Image-publications will be explained. And also a few aspects of Illustrator will be discussed.
The Tuesday afternoon will focus more in-depth on the skills learned during the morning. Adobe Illustrator will be discussed more extensively, and importing and exporting images from other programs will be discussed as well. You can also bring your own images, if you have some, or practice some more with the exercise images.
