Course 

NGS in DNA diagnostics

VKGL/VKGN ‘NGS in DNA diagnostics’ is a course aimed at Genomic Resequencing in a Medical Diagnostic Context, i.e to apply Next Generation Sequencing data as diagnostic tool in the hospital. Lectures will be accompanied with hands-on exploration.

 

Day 1 consists of an introduction to NGS techniques followed by specialised lectures on sample preparation, enrichment technologies and read mapping.

Day 2 will continue with lectures on variant calling, annotation and interpretation with a diagnostic emphasis applied to Gene Capturing Panels, Exome Screening and CNV analysis. 
The afternoon of Day 1 & Day 2 is reserved for workshops and software demonstrations. Real data will be used where possible in hands-on tutorials using both commercial and open source software.

Day 3 focuses on impact of results in the lab and ethical and legal issues of NGS in the clinical application. Real-life applications of NGS in the clinic will be presented. A forum discussion between researchers and clinicians about mutual expectations, ethics, implications of NGS on diagnostics and data sharing concludes the day.

This course is intended for bioinformaticians, researchers and molecular & clinical geneticists. The mixed programme will appeal to all those requiring a solid background in the application of NGS techniques for (routine) genetic diagnosis of a patient. The course will be mainly in English.

Participants from the postgraduate school MolMed get a 100% discount and pay €0.

Master students, get a 50% discount and pay €250/ 3 days. 

Master students who have to pay the fee from their personal budget get a 75% discount and pay €XXX/ X days.

Additional remark: AIOs are not considered PhD-students and will thus also not receive the reduced PhD-fee.

 

The Erasmus/LUMC Research School MGC has made a selection of courses it deems fit for its members. This course is not one of them.

Therefore, the Erasmus/LUMC Research School MGC will not pay for its members to participate in this course. All MGC-members will need to pay themselves (or from personal budget) after receiving an invoice (please provide personal address) or will have their research departments pay for them (in that case, please provide ‘kostenplaatsnummer’ of the research group). Financial regulation of the Postgraduate School MolMed, from January 1st 2019, the following financial rules apply, but they may differ per course still. Look at the course fee of each course to be sure which discounts are really applied:

• Non-commercial course, symposium or workshop fee: €200/day, €750/week

• Participants of the postgraduate school MolMed: discount of 100%

• However, the Personal Leadership course and the workshops Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign have to be paid from the ‘personal budget’ of employees, MolMed members and PhD students included. So they will receive an invoice from us which you have to pay and which will be reimbursed by your Department. When you will pay from your personal budget you need to provide us your home address details for the invoice. 

If there is no personal budget left, the MM-members get a discount of 100%.

• PhD students and Master’s students, regardless of institution: discount of 50%.

•The course fees of research master’s students will be paid by their master program at rate of €100/ECTS. For not I&I master students: please inform your master program in advance whether they agree to pay.

•Master’s students who are paying the fee from their private budget: discount of 75%. When you will pay from your personal budget you need to provide us your home address details for the invoice.

•However, 2 courses in statistics are paid centrally by the Dept. of Research policy for all PhD students from Erasmus MC! These are R and the SPSS course. So for Erasmus MC PhD students, these courses are always free, provided you are officially registered as a PhD student.

There is one fee for the entire course. There is no reduction for partial participation.

All invoices will be sent by email to the mail address that you filled in upon registration. If this address is not correct we use your Erasmus MC address.
