Course
Photoshop and Illustrator CC 2021 Workshop for PhD-students and other researchers

Description
The Erasmus Postgraduate School Molecular Medicine (MolMed) has two main activities: (1) the organization of education for PhD students; and (2) the stimulation of cooperation between several departments with regards to translational research.

The school organizes this two half-day hands-on Workshop on the use of Photoshop and Illustrator CC to edit and refine images for medical publications and to make and adapt figures, graphs and tables. It is especially meant for medical PhD-students, Agiko’s and others who wants to know more about making figures for publications in scientific journals, such as Nature, Science and others. Both programs, Photoshop and Illustrator, will be dealt with evenly.
This workshop uses the Adobe program Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC which can be bought at a heavily reduced price for all Erasmus MC employees via Surfspot.nl (as part of the Creative Suite CC). All Erasmus MC employees who have a SOM-pc will have access to Photoshop CC.

In this workshop you will learn to create a figure with imaginary data from different file-types, such as: ppt, pdf, psd, tiff, jpg and eps. We will be adding pictures and tables into one figure meant for publication. We will be correcting pictures and images for color and learn about the difference between CMYK and RGB. And we will be importing and exporting data, such as images and figures, to and from Photoshop and Illustrator. It is possible to bring your own images as well. The second day will be partly about modifying your own images.

This day will start with lectures on Photoshop, explaining the different tools and letting you work with them on several prefabricated images. The Guidelines for Image-publications will be explained. And also a few aspects of Illustrator will be discussed.

This Workshop is meant for PhD-students and other researchers who want to learn how to adapt their own images, in order to include them in scientific publications.
