Course
Basic course on 'R'

Description
The Erasmus Postgraduate School Molecular Medicine of the Erasmus MC organizes this basic course on the statistical package ‘R’.

'R' (http://www.r-project.org/) has become the 'lingua franca' of data analysis and statistical computing. Its great success is attributed to its free availability and the capability for a wide range of analysis and graphics.

In this course we will provide a smooth introduction to the R system using both GUI-based and command-based sessions.

Aim
Learning objectives: after following this course participants will be able to use R in their every day data manipulation and statistical analysis tasks. Moreover, they will learn the basic structure of the language in such a way that it will become easier to follow more advanced topics such as the Bioconductor (http://www.bioconductor.org/) or advanced R programming (e.g. handling large data bases, etc.).

What this course is not about!
This course is not about statistics. However, since R is a statistical programming language some basic knowledge of statistical concepts is required. During the course the concepts needed will be briefly summarized.

Registration can be done via this website. Participants are allowed to participate on a first-come first-serve basis. Due to the practical nature of this workshop, there is a limited attendence of 60. Because of the popularity of this workshop registrations from the Erasmus MC will be given priority.

Audience and participation
This course is primarily targeted at (junior) biomedical researchers and therefore the only prerequisite is general knowledge of molecular biology.
