Course
Two-days course Bayesians statistics and JASP: Basic and Advanced

Description
This two-day course is an extended version of the one-day course offered under the same name in 2016, 2017, and 2018. During the second day, more attention is paid to the theoretical roots of Bayesian statistics; more analyses are explained and practised; and additional functionalities of JASP are explained and used.

Bayesian statistics is a branch of statistics in which evidence is expressed as a measure of uncertainty instead of frequency (i.e., p value). It allows the scientist to update initial beliefs about the true state of the world (e.g., null or alternative hypothesis) with observations, reducing uncertainty when more data is collected. Instead of only testing your data under the null hypothesis, Bayesian statistics enables the scientist to assess the probability of both the null and the alternative hypothesis. With Bayesian statistics, you can finally distinguish between absence of evidence and evidence of absence!

JASP is a new, free, and user-friendly alternative to SPSS. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux; it is open source; it is easy to use; and it features all conventional parametric analysis for both frequentist and Bayesian statistics. JASP is a Graphic User Interface software package build on R and depends on R packages like BAS, BayesFactor, lavaan, and metaphor. Many of JASPís functionalities are explained in Youtube videos and GIFs; and it curates an active blog on use and development. JASP is constantly improving and to this end maintains an active forumand Feature Request & Bug Report page.

External PhD candidates pay €100/day. Commercial and other external participants pay €200/day. There is one fee for the entire course, there is no reduction for partial participation.

Cancellation policy:
Erasmus MC Graduate School charges a cancellation fee of €75 for all cancellations made more than 22 days before the start of the course. Fifty percent of the course fee, with a minimum of €75, is due for cancellations made between 21 and 10 days before the start date. The full course fee is due for cancellations made less than 10 days before the start date, or in case of no-show without cancellation. For Erasmus MC PhD candidates the full course fee in case of the cancellation policy will be the equivalent of the number of course days times €100.

All invoices will be sent to the head of department or for external participants to the e-mail address provided upon registration.

Those who register for a PhD course agree with these financial conditions.
