Word Advanced: Working with (large) documents the right way
 
Description 
This course is designed to help users who are familiar with Word’s basic features take their skills to the next level. The topics covered include using tools like styles, macros, templates, mail merge, and building blocks to automate tasks. Students will also learn how to create complex documents using tables, charts, and various types of illustrations.

This advanced course is designed to help power users leverage Microsoft Word to collaborate on documents and secure information. This course also covers techniques for creating complex documents, such as documents that require reference pages.

Editing a Document
In this lesson, students will learn how to navigate through and select text. Modifying, finding, and replacing text is also covered.

Formatting Text and Paragraphs
This lesson explores Microsoft Word’s formatting tools. To begin, commands on the Home tab and mini toolbar will be discussed. Then, students will learn how to arrange text using tabs and lists. Paragraph layout tools, borders, shading, styles, and formatting management techniques will also be covered.

Adding Tables
This lesson is all about creating, modifying, and formatting tables. Table conversion tools will also be covered.

Managing Lists
Sorting, renumbering, and customizing lists will be covered in this lesson.

Controlling Page Appearance
This lesson covers page formatting options, such as page color and borders, watermarks, headers, footers, and the Page Setup dialog box.

Customizing Formats Using Styles and Themes
This lesson focuses on creating and modifying text, list, and table styles. Applying and customizing document themes will also be covered.

Using Images in a Document
This lesson will cover resizing images, adjusting image appearance,  and integrating pictures and text. Adding screenshots and videos to a document are also discussed.

Inserting Content Using Quick Parts
This lesson takes a closer look at Building Blocks, particularly Quick Parts and fields.

Collaborating on Documents
This lesson begins with a look at modifying user information and sharing documents. We also take a look at working with comments and comparing document changes. The lesson concludes with reviewing a document, merging document changes and coauthoring documents.

Adding Reference Marks and Notes
This lesson explores how to annotate documents with reference tools, such as captions, cross-references, bookmarks, hyperlinks, footnotes, endnotes, citations, and bibliographies.

Simplifying and Managing Long Documents
This lesson looks at ways to enhance and streamline long documents. Topics include adding cover pages; creating an index, table of contents, and ancillary tables (such as a table of authorities); managing outlines; and working with master documents and subdocuments.

Course fees:
If not otherwise indicated, Erasmus MC PhD courses are free for Erasmus MC PhD candidates and Research Master students who use them as electives. Erasmus MC employees pay €100/day. External PhD candidates pay €100/day. Commercial and other external participants pay €200/day. There is one fee for the entire course, there is no reduction for partial participation.

Cancellation policy:
Erasmus MC Graduate School charges a cancellation fee of €75 for all cancellations made more than 22 days before the start of the course. Fifty percent of the course fee, with a minimum of €75, is due for cancellations made between 21 and 10 days before the start date. The full course fee is due for cancellations made less than 10 days before the start date, or in case of no-show without cancellation. For Erasmus MC PhD candidates the full course fee in case of the cancellation policy will be the equivalent of the number of course days times €100. 

All invoices will be sent to the head of department or for external participants to the e-mail address provided upon registration.
